450,356. Bobbins. LOWRY, A. S., c /o Textile Paper Tube Co., Ltd., Oakwood Mills, Romiley, Cheshire. Jan. 8, 1935, No. 600. [Class 120 (iii)] [See also Group V] Conical or fruato-conical bobbins, are made from discs formed by placing around a common centre a number of paper coils of different diameters and having a common axis, and applying a high pressure to the disc in the direction of the common axis to amalgamate and interlock the coils with each other. The flange 16, Fig. 4, of a paper bobbin 17, is made by placing a blank B, cut from a tube formed of nested waste cop tubes, between conical dies 13, 14 and applying a high pressure. The dies may be heated by coils 13<1>. The paper may be treated prior to pressing with a binder such as a synthetic resin, shellac, &c. The finished flange 16 is then passed over the bobbin tube 17.
