Abstract

551,992. Bobbins. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. Sept. 16, 1941, No. 11835. Convention date, Oct. 4, 1940. [Class 120 (iii)] A bobbin adapted to receive a magazine or transfer tail has one flange peripherally grooved to receive the tail and a number of grooves on its inner face communicating with the peripheral groove. As shown the flange 7 of the bobbin 8 has a peripheral groove 9 and a pair of grooves 10, directed tangentially to the surface of the barrel of the bobbin, are formed in the inner face of the flange. The outer surface of the flange may have shallow slots I 1 which serve for severing and engaging the yarn when it is held against the rotating bobbin; more than one pair of grooves 10 may be provided. When the yarn from the traveller is thrown on the bobbin it is taken to the bottom of the traverse and automatically or manually guided into one of the grooves 10 and the groove 9 ; after a number of turns have been wound in the groove 9 the yarn is guided upwards into another of the grooves 10 and directed to the barrel of the bobbin to be wound thereon in the usual manner. The yarn may be guided into and out of the groove 9 by the means described in Specification 551,476.
