Abstract
450,048. Filtering gases. FOURNIER, J., 7, Villa Logerais, Bois Colombes, Seine, France. June 7, 1935, Nos. 16634 and 16635. Convention dates, June 7, 1934 and June 5, 1935. [Class 8 (ii)] [See also Group II] A vertical filtering layer of sand or other granular filtering material is bounded on either side by a vertical series of horizontal slats 8, Fig. 2, the granular material being continuously discharged by means such as a screw in a channel 4 and replaced from a hopper 10. The slats may be oscillated about axes 11 and means may be provided for causing the slats to vibrate. Channels 4<1>, 4<2> may be provided for the discharge of surface sand or dust. The slats may have flanges 12 on their outer edges and the inner edges may be indented. Fig. 3 shows a number of parallel filter elements 17 in a casing 15 divided into compartments by partitions 18. There is a common inlet and outlet for gas under treatment, a common supply hopper A and a common discharge conveyer 29. The elements 17 may be built up of standard sections. Elements 17 may be arranged at an angle to one another as shown in Fig. 14. Fig. 13 shows diagrammatically an arrangement in which the sand from the hopper C is cleansed for re-use. The sand is passed by conveyers 4<1> on to an endless conveyer 43, provided with rakes or buckets, and falls from the conveyer through an opening 46 into a sinuous channel 45 where it is subjected to a current of gas from an inlet 48 which carries away the light impurities through a collector 49. The cleansed sand falls through an opening 47 and is lifted by the conveyer 43 to the hopper A. The gas used for cleansing may be taken from the current of gas under treatment and after use for cleaning it may be passed through a cyclone separator and returned to the filter inlet. The chain of the conveyer 43 may be utilized to operate hammers imparting vibrations to the filter screens. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also an arrangement in which a layer of sand is supported by an inclined series of horizontal slats, Fig. 1 (Cancelled), and an arrangement, Fig. 5 (Cancelled), in which a vertical layer of sand is bounded by two series of inclined slats, the slats on the outer surface having a curved profile. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
