Abstract
449,689. W a n d s c r e e n - c l e a n e r s. JENKINS, A. P., 3306, West 11th Avenue, and BRAIM, L., 3821, West 13th Avenue, both in Vancouver, Canada. Jan. 1, 1935, No. 47. [Class 138 (i)] A windscreen-cleaning device comprises in combination with the oscillatory arm of a windscreen-cleaning mechanism a slideway and a slidable member horizontally disposed on the windscreen, the member having rollers or like wheels for engagement on the slideway, and spaced arms mounted upon the slidable member and controlled by the windscreen - cleaning mechanism, the arms carrying squeegees or like wiper elements for engagement with the windscreen. In the construction shown, a slideway 4 secured to the screen by brackets 5 is provided with two adjustable stop members 6 and is adapted to receive a slide bar 7 provided with guiding rollers 10. The bar 7 is ribbed to accommodate a rod 12 the ends of which are bent and project through holes 11 in the bar, then depend downwardly to form arms 13 carrying wipers 14. A rod 16 fixed to the bar 7 by brackets 15 is encircled by two springs 17 between which is a slidable contact block 18. One of the arms 13 is connected by a gimbal joint 27 to an arm 25 connected to the rock shaft of the wiper-operating mechanism so that as the arm 25 is oscillated the wipers 14 reciprocate across the screen. As the wipers approach the end of their traverse the block 18 engages one of the stops 6 whereby one of the springs on the rod 16 is compressed and thus facilitates reversal of the movement of the wipers. The arm 25 is adjustably mounted in a housing 21 and is engaged by a spring 29 whereby the wipers 14 are pressed against the screen.
