427,383. Windscreen - cleaners. VAUXHALL MOTORS, Ltd., Kimpton Road, Luton, and CONSTANTINE, W. W., 111, Grosvenor Road, Westminster. Aug. 21,1933, No. 5568/35. Divided out of 424,687. [Classes 19 and 138 (ii)] For cleaning a curved windscreen or like curved glass surface, a wiper blade which is pivotally mounted is flexible and normally curved so that throughout its movement it maintains wiping contact with the screen. Another arrangement comprises a blade adapted to reciprocate in a direction parallel to the axis of curvature of the screen, the blade being curved corresponding to the shape of the screen. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a wiper blade a is hinged to an arm b which is pivotally connected to a spindle h and is pressed towards the screen A by a spring g. A roller n engaging the screen limits the pressure of the blade. The blade comprises a rubber squeegee secured to a normally-curved back plate a<1> of spring steel, and comforms to the surface of the screen during its traverse. In a modification shown in Fig. 3, the squeegee is secured to a number of pivotally mounted members a' secured to the backing plate a<1>. In a further modification, the blade comprises a rubber squeegee moulded around a spring wire. In the construction shown in Fig. 5, two wiper blades a shaped to the curvature of the screen are reciprocated vertically while remaining horizontal, by means of vacuum operated motors f at the sides of the windscreen.
