Abstract
449,629. Fastenings. CHESTON, A. S., and SLEIGH, H. L., Widney Works, Bagot Street, Birmingham, and BOOTH, J. H., Idris, Lichfield Road, Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield. Jan. 19, 1935, No. 1829. [Class 44] A fastening for the panel of a motor car bonnet comprises a rod 14 of rectangular shape with its inner end 15 of circular cross - section, and a combined torsion and compression spring 18. A flange 12 has a rectangular shaped hole to accommodate the rod 14. To release the hook 23 from the eye 24, the knob 16 is pressed downwards until the part 14 is clear of the hole in the flange 12, when the spring exerts torsion to turn the hook 23 at right angles to the position shown, shoulders in a recess 21 preventing further rotation of the rod. The knob 16 is turned by hand to allow the spring to re-engage the hook 23 in the eye 24, and restore the spring to its original position. A distance tube surrounds the circular portion 15, to prevent the rod being pressed too far downwards, and a pin 25 limits the upward travel of the rod 14. The distance tube may be dispensed with and the compressed coils of the spring limit the downward movement of the rod.
