[Class 94 (i)] [See also Group V] A machine for producing a confection comprises means for shaping a piece of candy, means for wrapping the shaped candy, and means for inserting a stick in the wrapped candy. Pieces of candy, cut and shaped from a batch, on a rotating table 1, Fig. 1, are pushed, together with a piece of wrapping paper 26, Fig. 18, into one of a series of pockets 33 in a wrapping wheel 25, Figs. 1 and 5, intermittently rotated by Geneva gearing. The paper is fed from a roll 28, Fig. 1, between guide rollers 27, and is severed between a fixed and a movable blade. As the candy is pushed into the pocket 33, Fig. 5, an arm 38 is rocked to fold the lower flap 39, Fig. 18, partially over the candy, and a hooked member 40 is swung down to break down the upper flap 41. As the wheel 25 rotates, a pair of rotating brushes 42 fold down the flap 39, a pivoted ironing member 44 smooths the flap 41 over the flap 39, a pair of folding members 47 sliding on guides 49 fold down the first end folds 48, Fig. 20, reciprocating arms 53 smooth down the second end folds 54 and pivoted plates 57 turn back the third end folds 58. The wrapped candy is next transferred from the pocket 33 in the wheel 25 to a similar pocket 33 in a second intermittently rotating wheel 63 by an ejector 34 one of which is situated in each pocket 33, the plates 57, which overlap the wheel 63, acting as a guide during the transfer. As the wheel 63 rotates, the tips of the end folds of the wrapper are folded down by a pivoted spring-loaded ironer 65 the upper end of which is provided with bevelled notches to engage and fold the tips. When the wrapped candy is situated adjacent a fixed abutment 123, a stick is inserted endwise therein by a reciprocating pusher, and finally, the ejector 34 in the pocket containing the finished confection is operated by the arm 124 to eject the confection.
