Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Oct. 31, 1935]. [Class 99 (ii)] [See also Group XVII] Milk bottles and other hollow articles which are at least in part of tapered form are made by winding helicoidally on a mandrel a transversely crÛped flexible paper strip, which maybe of a translucent nature, the strip being coated over part of the under surface with adhesive. To facilitate removal the mandrel may be formed in two portions hingedly connected together for instance at one end, the parts being closed together when the mandrel is to be removed. During winding over the tapered or contoured portions of the mandrel the strip assumes a curved form by reason of the different tensions to which the edges are subjected and accommodates itself to the curvature to which it is being applied. The bottle shown in Fig. 5 is formed by starting the winding over a cardboard neck reinforcement 14 and continuing towards a base reinforcement 9 ; a flanged bottom 10 is held in position by crimping thereover the end of the part 9. Fig. 6 shows a neck reinforcement sleeve formed with a closed end 15 adapted to be perforated for delivery of the contents. The bottles &c. may be coated both internally and externally with a layer 19 of wax &c.
