This invention relates to wrapped packages such as bottles and the like receptacles, or articles, and it is an object of this invention to provide a wrapped article of the character described having improved means for readily removing the wrapper.

A further object of this invention is to provide a neat, compact, and attractive wrapped package of the character described comprising comparatively few and simple parts, which shall be relatively inexpensive to manufacture, easy to assemble and unwrap, and which shall yet be practical and efiicient to a high degree.

Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.

The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described, and of which the scope of application will be indicated in the following claims.

In the accompanying drawing, in which is shown one of the various possible illustrative embodiments of this invention,

Fig. 3 is a View similar to Fig. 2, but illustrating a modified construction; and

Referring now in detail to the drawing, 10 designates a wrapped article or package embodying the invention, here shown for the purpose of illustration, in the form of a bottle 11, such as a ginger ale bottle, having the usual closure cap 12. My improved wrapper 14 comprises a shallow cup-shaped member 15, made of cardboard or any other suitable material, adapted to snugly receive the bottom end of the bottle. Said cup-shaped member 15 comprises a bottom wall 16 and a short cylindrical wall 17 preferably about one-half to one inch in height. A sheet 18 of paper or the like suitable soft material may be Wrapped around the side of the bottle, said sheet preferably overlapping the cylindrical wall 17 of cap 15 and terminating as at 19 just above the bottom wall 16 of the cup-shaped member 15. The upper edge 20 of the paper wrapping sheet 18 may terminate just below the cap 12. The wrapping 18 is applied in the usual way, by taking an oblong sheet of paper or the like covering material, wrapping the bottle therein, and

merely twisting the paper at the top to shape the same around the tapering portion and neck of the bottle.

A tubular tapering sleeve 24 made of cardboard or the like material may then be fitted over the neck of the bottle, and disposed around the upper portion of the wrapped sheet 18. The sleeve or tubular member 24 is preferably shaped to conform to the shape of the neck of the bottle, and the upper edge 25 thereof is preferably disposed just below the bottle cap 12. The member 24 may be made of cardboard, paper board or the like stiff and yet tearable material Means is provided for quickly removing the sheet wrapper 18, the tubular member 24, and cap 15 from the bottle. To this end, a piece of string 2'7 is attached to the inner surface of the bottom wall 16 of the cup 15, preferably by means of a gummed tab or paster 28 adapted to be pasted over the end portion 29 of the string, said end portion 29 being placed against said bottom wall before pasting. Obviously, the string 2'7 may be attached to cup 15 in any other suitable manner. The string 27 passes through the small opening 30 formed in the cup 15 adjacent the corner por- 1' tion thereof, and passes upwardly between the wrapped sheet 18 and the bottle, and overthe

20, 25 of Wrapped sheet 18 and tubular sleeve 24. Tied to the upper end 33 of the string, or attached thereto in any other suitable manner, is a pull ring 34, which is thus suspended against the outer surface of said tubular sleeve.

For removing the wrapper from the bottle 11, the ring is merely grasped, as for exampleby inserting a finger therein, and pulled so that the string 27 will cut through and ripor tear the cardboard tubular member 24 and the paper covering or wrapper 18. Upon ripping open, the wrapper 18, the cap 15 will readily slip off, or

leave the same uncovered. The wrapper 18 and sleeve 24 may obviously be readily removed after pulling the string in the manner described above.

The paper wrapper 18, which may also cover the bottom of the bottle if desired, serves to cover the bottle and keep the same clean, preventing dust from gathering around the bottle, and soiling thereof in handling, and may then be quickly and easily removed when the contents of the bottle are to be dispensed.

Obviously the ring member 34 may also serve as a means for carrying the bottle by insertion of a finger therein, thus facilitating the carrying of a number of bottles by hand.

Although the invention has been illustrated as embodying a wrapped ginger ale bottle, it is obvious that packages of various kinds such as cans, jars and the like receptacles or other article may be wrapped in accordance with my invention.

In Fig. 3 there is illustrated a modified construction of the pull ring. The pull device 40 shown in Fig. 3 comprises a handle portion 41 formed with an opening 42 for receiving the upper end 33 of the string, and a straight edge 4s adjacent the handle to serve as an opener for the caps 12 in the well known manner.

Thus a finger may be inserted through the ring for pulling the string 27 and removing the wrapper. The member 40 may thereafter be used in the usual manner for opening the bottle cap.

It will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.

' As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiment above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawing is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. In combination with a bottle having a cap thereon, a cup-shaped member receiving the bottom end of the bottle, a sheet wrapped about the bottle, a string attached to the cup shaped member and passing between the bottle and said wrapped sheet, and a bottle cap opener provided with a finger opening attached to the free end of said string, whereby said opener may be grasped and the string pulled for ripping said sheet and drawing said cup-shaped member oiT the bottom of said bottle and said opener released for use in removing said cap.

2. In combination, a bottle, a cup-shaped member receiving the bottom end of the bottle, a sheet wrapped around the bottle, a string attached to the cup and extending between the wrapped sheet and the bottle, a tubular member on the neck of the bottle extending about the wrapped sheet, said string passing through said tubular member, whereby said string may be pulled for tearing the tubular member and sheet to remove the wrapper.

3. In combination with a bottle, a cup-shaped member made of sheet material receiving the bottom end of the bottle, a sheet or" paper wrapped about the side and neck portion of the bottle, and about a portion of the cup, a tubular member at the neck of the bottle disposed about the upper end of the wrappedsheet, and a string attached to the cup and passing between the wrapped sheet and the bottle, and extending through said tubular member to the exterior thereof.

4. In combination with a bottle, a cup-shaped member made of sheet material receiving the bottom end of the bottle, a sheet of paper wrapped about the side and neck portion of the bottle, a tubular member at the neck of the bottle and disposed about the upper end of the wrapped sheet, and a string attached to the cup and passing between the wrapped sheet and the bottle, and extending through said tubular member to the exterior thereof, and a ring attached to the free end of the string.

5. In combination, a bottle, a cup-shaped member having a bottom wall and a cylindrical wall, snugly receiving the bottom, end of said bottle, a sheet of paper wrapped about said bottle and around the cylindrical wall portion of said cup-shaped member, and a string having one end portion pasted to the inner surface of said bottom wall, extending between said wrapper and bottle to the upper end of said bottle and having the other end thereof protruding from the top of said bottle.

6. In combination, a bottle, a cup-shaped member having a bottom wall and a cylindrical wall, snugly receiving the bottom end of said bottle, a sheet of paper wrapped about said bottle and around the cylindrical wall portion of said cup-shaped member, and a string having an end portion pasted to the inner surface of said bottom wall, extending between said wrapper and bottle to the upper end of said bottle, and a sleeve on the neck of the bottle disposed about said wrapped sheet.

'7. In combination, a bottle having a closure cap, a cup-shaped member having a bottom wall and a cylindrical wall, snugly'receiving the bottom end of said bottle, a sheet of paper wrapped about said bottle and around the cylindrical wall portion of said cup-shaped member and partially around said cap, and a string having an end portion pasted to the inner surface of said bottom wall, extending between said wrapper and bottle to the upper end of said bottle, and a sleeve on the neck of the bottle disposed about said wrapped sheet, and a pull member attached to the free end of said string, said. pull member comprising a ring having an inner straight edge whereby a finger may be inserted in said ring member and said ring member pulled for ripping said sleeve and sheet and pulling said cup-shaped member off said bottle and said ring member released'for use in removing said cap from said bottle.
