N. ; 497, Broad Street, Lonsdale, both in Rhode Island, U.S.A.) Aug. 21, 1935, No. 23467. Convention date, Aug. 30, 1934. [Class 74 (ii)] Circular machines.-During reciprocatory knitting the loops which would normally be as shown in Fig. 2, are equalized by giving the sinkers an additional inward movement immediately after or while the stitches are being drawn. In the apparatus shown, one fixed sinker cam 14 is made thinner than usual and beneath it is another cam 30 pivoted at 31. When in acting position, Fig. 6, the operative surface of the cam 30 forms a continuation of that of the cam 14 and depresses the sinkers to stretch the loops immediately after they have been drawn. As the sinker cap 12 moves to a small extent at the beginning of each reciprocation of the needle cylinder a pin 34 on the cam 30 engages and leaves a cam 40 to put the cam 30 into and out of action, when the cam 40 is pulled against the action of a spring 43 into the position shown in Fig. 8 by links &c. 46, 44 which also control the sinker cam 15 and a thread-guide not shown.
