447,798. Collapsable shutters. POWNER, E. D., and POWNER, W. D., 13 Rockingham Street, Leeds. April 15, 1935, No. 11541. [Class 45] Folding-panel shutters in which the panels are mounted on a collapsable gate and are hingedly connected by linking strips, are provided with means to enable the shutter to be extended so that all the panels lie in one plane, without self-locking occurring. The panels 1 have scrolls engaging in similar scrolls in linking strips 2, alternate linking strips being secured to alternate pickets 3 of the collapsable gate. The free linking strips may have their pivotal connections with the panels 1 located forwardly of the corresponding connections of the panels with the linking strips connected to the gate pickets so that when the panels lie in one plane an effort applied to slide the gate results in the application of a couple to the panels causing them to fold face to face and back to back in accordion fashion. Flat or spiral springs such as 4 or spring pressed plungers may be mounted on the free pickets to engage the free linking strips when the gate is shut so as to initiate the folding movement of the panels when the gate is opened. The linking strips lie all on one side of the plane of the panels.
