Abstract
447,398. Refrigerating. ELECTROLUX, Ltd., Luton, Bedfordshire.-(Assignees of Platen - Munters Refrigerating System Aktiebolag; 2, Norrmalmstorg, Stockholm) Oct. 9, 1934, No. 28871. Convention date, Oct. 9, 1933. [Class 29] Absorption systems.-In an intermittent system the control of the heat supply to the generator 10 to initiate an evaporationabsorption period at the end of a generating- condensing period is effected by a thermostat 68, which is influenced by heat of absorption of vapour of condensate overflowing from the evaporator 52 and passing in heat exchange with a warm element of the apparatus. During the generating phase strong liquor flows from a vessel 17 through a conduit 48, and from a vessel 13 through conduits 4, 5, to a heated " pumping " coil 20 whence it is raised to the top of the generator, while weak liquor flows back from the generator through a pipe 31 and interchanger 33 to vessel 13 for storage. The refrigerant vapour passes from the generator by a pipe 23 to a sealing vessel 100, then by pipes 5, 25 to a rectifier 29, and by pipes 45, 43 to a condenser 11. The liquefied refrigerant flows around the rectifier jacket and rises through a pipe 30 to the evaporator, which has an overflow device 50, 51, 36 for excess refrigerant and any solvent. This overflow passes down the pipe 36, which is heated by interchange with members 33, 48, and vapour evolved therein is absorbed in liquor in a vessel 62, connected by pipes 60, 61 with vessel 17. The liquor is thereby raised in temperature and influences the thermostat to cut off the heat supply. In the evaporating period vapour passes down the pipe 30, through the condenser, and by a pipe 44 to a conduit 1 connecting the storage vessel 13 with the absorber pipe 2, and induces a flow of liquid from the storage vessel to a stand pipe 42 above the vessel 17. The vapours in the boiler system are here absorbed and the pressure in the boiler system reduced. Absorption takes place in the upper part of conduit 1 and the heat evolved maintains the thermostat warm until evaporation ceases, whereupon the thermostat cools down and starts a fresh heating period.
