Abstract
446,999. Bearings for vertical spindles. VEREINIGTE KUGELLAGERFABRIKEN AKT.-GES., 52, Schultesstrasse, Schweinfurton-Main, Germany. April 2, 1935, No. 10189. Convention date, July 23, 1934. [Class 12 (i)] A high speed vertical spindle 3 is supported by an upper roller bearing 1 and a lower neck bearing 9 connected with one another, and has a transversely movable step bearing 10. As shown, the neck bearings 1, 9, are carried bv a common sleeve 5 having a spherical surface 7 seated on the bearing casing 8. The latter contains a liquid, such as oil, to damp oscillations. The contacting faces of the step bearing 10 and casing 8 may be plane, spherical or conical, and the neck bearing 9 may have a bush 12. As shown in Fig. 3, the step bearing 10 is loaded by the pressure of a spring 13 abutting against a fixed ring 15 and bearing against a ring 14 resting on the bearing 10. The surface of contact between the ring 14 and bearing 10 may be conical or spherical.
