Abstract

446,825. Loading, unloading, and storing goods. BUDD, S. W., 5, Orford Gardens, Twickenham, Middlesex, HUGGETT, W. J., Holcote, Selborne Road, New Malden, Surrey, and MECHANICAL TRANSPORTERS, Ltd., Capel House, New Broad Street, London. Nov. 6, 1934, No. 31838. [Class 78 (iv)] A method of handling goods in a multistoried storehouse with a lift for serving the various floors, consisting in (a) loading the goods as received on to portable trays or containers resting on supports clear of the ground ; (b) running a transfer carriage underneath them and lifting them from the supports ; (c) trans. porting the lifted containers on the carriage into the storehouse lift ; (d) raising them to the required storage floor ; (e) running the carriage on this floor between fixed storage walls on to which the loaded tray is lowered for storage ; (f) re-loading on to a transfer carriage, when required for re-issue, and conveying to the delivery door of the storage floor ; and (g) transferring the tray by a crane direct to lorries from this point. Thus, loads such as rolls of news-print 13 may be picked up from a barge by the travelling crane 17 and stacked on the container 18 while it is resting on a support 20. A wheeled truck 21 is then run under the support and the jacks 22 operated to take the weight of the loadcontainer. The truck and container are then run into the portable lift 23, raised to the desired storage floor, traversed along the well to the desired point, and then run between storage racks which support the lowered container so that the truck can be removed. To re-issue, the truck is run beneath the stored container and again taken to the lift for transfer to a floor 26, Fig. 2, on which it is moved into the radius of action of a travelling-crane 27 which deposits the container on to a lorry 28. As modifications, the lift cage may move in a fixed well instead of being of the suspended portable type, and have a moving platform or floor or may be fitted with supports similar to 20 so that the original truck 21 is removed before ascent, and a second truck on the upper floor used to effect the movement to the storage racks. Both the trucks and the jacks may be electrically operated. Specification 429,375 is referred to.
