[Class 98 (i)] A photographic roll-film camera has a device f or guiding an unperforated new film into its operative position in the camera which also serves for advancing the unperforated film into successive positions for fresh exposures and is arranged, when the camera lid is closed to engage automatically with the end of the film allowed to project from the paying- out box and remains in engagement with the unperforated film over the height of a whole picture once the film has been fully engaged by the device. As shown, in the rear wall 1 of the camera are mounted two pairs of sprockets 3, 4 over each pair of which passes a chain 6 provided with teeth 5 and moved in the direction of the arrow E by the pawl 7 pressed against the chain by a spring 10. The pawl 7 is pivoted to a plate 12 carrying a button 13. The advancing mechanism has a return spring 11. Inclined guide surfaces on a guide plate 16 cause the teeth 5 to engage the film and move it in the direction of the arrow F. When the camera is closed the teeth 5 engage the end of the film projecting from the end of the paying-out box, and the film is fed automatically into the take-up box, where it winds up on itself. By operating the button 13 once or twice, after the insertion or removal of a mask, pictures of two different sizes may be obtained.
