Abstract
446,308. Reciprocating picks. HOPE, H. G., Trigfa Teg, Llwyn Arosfa, TyCoch, Swansea. Feb. 2, 1935, No. 3489. [Class 59] In a coal-breaking machine the teeth 6 of a lower breaking element A are arranged to penetrate a reciprocating screen 2 and an upper breaking element B is arranged to press upon and break the coal that rests upon the top of the teeth of the lower element while they project 'above the screen. The lower set of picks 6 are resiliently mounted on springs 8 and the teeth pass through the longitudinal slats 2a of the screen, the transverse slats 2b being removed in order to provide for the reciprocatory motion of the screen. The upper set of picks are reciprocated in guides 7 by connecting rod 10 and crank 11. The screen 2 is suspended on links 3 and is connected by a link 14 to a transverse bar 15 forming the pivotal connection between the connecting rod and upper set of picks. On the upward movement of the head B the screen 2 is moved upwards and forwards and the coal thereon is deposited over the lower picks 6 and on the downward movement of the head B, the screen moves downwards and backwards and leaves the coal on the points of the picks.. The coal is thus crushed between the opposed picks and the small coal passes through the screen 2 whilst the larger pieces are moved forward by the screen to another set of picks, the picks of which are more closely spaced. A further set of picks may receive the material discharged over the screen 2.
