Abstract
445,548. Spring drum apparatus. HEUSINKVELD, F. W., 43, Wortmannstrasse, Elberfeld, Wuppertal, and BRAUCKMANN, E. G., Langschede-on-Ruhr, both in Germany. Oct. 8, 1934, No. 28731. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, April 8, 1935.] [Class 78 (ii)] The drum of a spring-drum device for taking up slack of a flexible conductor 9 comprises side members 1, 2 having screwthreaded bosses 4, 5 respectively which screw into the ends of a tubular member 6, the member 6 having a central flange 3 which divides the conductor-receiving portion of the drum into two compartments and which provides the means for attaching the conductor to the drum. For this purpose the flange 3 is formed with a radial slot 7 opening into a circumferential slot 8 at the end of which the flange is formed on both sides with wedge-shaped thickenings 10, a bight in the conductor being passed through the slots 7, 8 so that its end bears on the thickenings 10 which are provided to reduce the bending strain on the conductor at its point of attachment. The sides of the bight are then wound into the two compartments of the drum. The drum is rotatable on a hollow axle 19 to which it is attached by a spiral spring 13 having a one-way connection 14, 15 with the drum. A wire strap 20 for guiding the conductor to the drum is carried in slots in the axle 19 and is retained in position by end caps 28.
