444,915. Hinges. ATKINS & CO., Ltd., F., Gipsyville, and JACKSON, J. M., 68, Westbourne Avenue, both in Hull. Nov. 28, 1934, No. 34235. [Class 65 (ii)] Tins and other containers of sheet material arc provided with hinged lids by cutting out and offsetting pintles 6, Fig. 1, from a bead extending wholly or partly round the edge of the lid and inserting them in sockets 7 pressed from a grooved portion 8 of the body or into a hook or equivalent part. The socket may be formed by cutting and rolling tongues 7 as in Fig. 5 or Fig. 6, or by pressing out bulbs which are all open at the same end. The pintles may be of unequal lengths. The pintles may be formed by first beading the lid flange and then cutting or by first cutting the edge of the flange, then beading it and finally severing the flange parallel to the bead. The pintles may be bent back into alignment with the bead by the action of closing the lid or the off-setting may be so small that the sockets are held by the pintles in engagement with the recesses formed by cutting out the pintles. The bead may be flattened before forming the pintles. The sockets may be on an interiorly fitting lid.
