424,144. Carton openers. WOOD, D., Hillside, Wigton, Cumberland. Dec. 15, 1933, No. 35339. [Class 66] A device for forming a pouring opening in a carton, particularly one of frustro-conical form, comprises a metal cap d, Fig. 2, the flange f of which is formed with a knife edge which, on the cap being pressed down, cuts the side wall of the carton and on rotation of the cap forms an opening, the flange being also provided with an aperture i which, as the cap is further rotated, comes into register with the opening so formed. The knife edge is formed at the end of a tongue produced by slitting the flange and bending the cut portion inwardly. In a modification the aperture k, Fig. 3, may be of arcuate shape, the metal adjoining being bent outwardly to afford a pouring lip l. By rotating the cap in the reverse direction the cut strip j can be re-wound to cover the opening.
