[Class 37] The test according tc the parent Specification employing the second differential of a stray field has the core rotating within a stationary coil 2 and composed of two or more parts 3a, 3b eccentrically mounted with respect to and regularly distributed about the rotational axis 4. The ends of the core parts remote from the test-piece may have increased magnetic conductivity, for example, by increasing their cross-section and bringing them closer together, or by providing a magnetic bridge-piece.
