Abstract

444,152. Vehicle opening-tops. OVERTON, W., 10, Marsh Street, Walsall. July 18, 1935, No. 20437. [Class 108 (i)] In vehicles provided with a roof opening or openings longitudinallymovable panels are connected respectively to oppositely movable parts of a chain at each side travelling in suitable guides so that movement of the chain pulls one panel or set of panels in one direction and pushes the other panel or set of panels in the opposite direction to uncover the roof opening or openings. The panels c, d are arranged to slide in guides g by means of brackets f which are also connected to the oppositely moving parts of a chain e arranged to be guided by the lips k, Fig. 8, of the guides g. The guides g are arranged at each side of the opening and the chains are operated by means of sprockets on the ends of an operating cross shaft o. The guiding portions of the brackets f comprise cylindrical parts v surrounded by a sleeve w of felt &c. As shown in Fig. 2, the lower run of the guide g is brought to the same level at the rear to keep the panels at the same level. In a modification the stepped portion of the bracket f may be in reverse directions for the different panels.
