443,692. Instruments for deaf persons. DICTOGRAPH PRODUCTS CO., Inc., 95, 149th Street, Jamaica, New York, U.S.A.- (Assignees of Koch, H. ; Jamaica, New York, U.S.A.) Sept. 16, 1935, No. 25692. Convention date, Sept. 22, 1934. [Class 40 (iv)] A hearing-aid apparatus for transmitting sound vibrations through the bone structure to the inner ear of the user comprises a relatively stiff reed 31 secured to a permanent bar-magnet 25 which is itself secured to a casing 10, for example by screws 24. Fixed to the magnet 25 is a pole-piece 27 carrying a speech coil 28 fed with current from a circuit including a battery and microphone. The vibrations of the reed 31 are transmitted to the casing 10 to which is secured a cover 11 which is placed against the mastoid bone of the user. Terminal members 14 for the leads are formed on contact plate members 13 inlaid flush with the cover 11 and having contacts 15 engaged by springs 16 and slidable plungers 17, 18 projecting into holes 19 into which are inserted prongs attached to the microphone apparatus. The casing 10 and cover 11 may be made of a non-resonant material such as hard-rubber or a synthetic resin. The instrument may be supported on the head by a flexible headband or may be provided with a handle.
