Abstract
Chlorpyrenequinones are obtained by treating pyrenequinone with a chlorinating agent. Preferably a solvent or diluent such as water, acetic acid, benzene, chlorbenzene, trichlorbenzene, chlornaphthalene, nitrobenzene, tetrachlorethane, chloroform, sulphuric acid or chlorsulphonic acid, and a halogen carrier such as iodine, iron, an iron salt, zinc chloride or antimony pentachloride is employed. Mono-, di-, tri- or tetrachloro derivatives are obtained. In examples, pyrenequinone is treated with chlorine in trichlorbenzene and in presence or not of iodine to give ditri- or tetrachloro derivatives.
