Abstract

442,936. Rubber threads. SHEPHERD, T. L., 7, Park Lane, London. May 12, 1934, Nos. 14438/34 and 13923/35. [Class 70] A method of producing rubber or like thread consists in applying coagulant to a moving support, applying latex or like dispersion to the coagulant on the support, withdrawing the thread of treated latex from the support and stretching it before its coagulation is completed. The coagulant may be applied in thread form to the edge of a knife edge disc or to a wire, or it may be applied as a thin continuous coating to a smooth moving surface, thin lines of latex being afterwards applied by means of an intaglio or surface engraved roller. As shown in Fig. 1, coagulant is applied to the edge of a disc 2 by a roller 1 dipping in a bath 4 of coagulant, and the disc 2 then rotates into a bath 3 of latex. The thread of partially coagulated latex is drawn off and stretched by rollers 5, 6. As shown in Fig. 2, a wire 7 coated with coagulant is led through a latex bath 3 and the treated latex thread is drawn off and stretched.
