[Class 94 (i)] [See also Groups VI and I] A slice-receiver of a slicing-machine has one or both walls laterally adjustable to adjust the width of the receiver according to the size of the loaves being cut. As shown in plan in Fig, 2, the wall 3 is fixed, and the opposite wall is formed of pivotally connected sections 7, 4, 5 6, the part 6 being fixed. The section 5 is provided with a member 22 which is pushed inwards to move the wall into the dotted line position 7<1>, 4<1>, 5<1>, 6. The wall 3 is integral with the main bottom part 14 of the receiver, and the section 4 of the displaceable wall is integral with an auxiliary bottom part 13 which slides beneath the main bottom 14 and is guided by a guide 21 and a pivoted link 18. A tension spring 17 tends always to open the receiver to its fullest extent. The section 7 of the displaceable wall and the end part 11 of the fixed wall are provided with spring hinges 10, 12 so that the parts 7, 11 tend always to come together, the slices in their passage forcing them apart. The free ends of the parts 7, 11 are tapered off to facilitate the placing of a bag 23 over the receiver. In a modification, pawl means are provided for retaining the displaceable side wall of the receiver in its adjusted position. In Fig. 5, the slice receiver 45, 47 is applied to a machine having a steeply inclined shoot 43 which supplies loaves one at a time, under the force of gravity, to be sliced by a group of very thin and sharp knives 44. A hand-operated pusher 46, slidable on a rod 50, advances the slices along the receiver.
