Abstract

442,163. Rotary cement kilns. FASTING, J. S., 9, Monrads Alle, Valby, near Copenhagen. Aug. 3, 1934, No. 22703. [Class 51 (ii)] In the burning of cement slurry in a rotary kiln provided with a preheater arranged outside the kiln and containing heat-transmitting elements, part of the slurry is passed through the preheater to the kiln and the remainder, either unheated or separately preheated to a lesser extent, is injected directly into the kiln and serves to cool the kiln gases somewhat before they reach the heat - transmitting elements in the preheater. The preheater may be stationary, in which case the heat-transmitting elements are preferably movable, or immovable, in which case the heat-transmitting elements may be fixed within it. In the construction shown in Fig. 4, the preheater comprises a shell 2 fixed around the end of the kiln 1. The space between the shell and the kiln is divided by longitudinal partitions which constitute heat-transmitting elements. A single spraying nozzle 4 sprays slurry both into the kiln and into the preheater. The dried slurry from the preheater enters the kiln through a pipe 19. In the construction shown in Fig. 6, the preheater comprises a drum 2 surrounding the end of the kiln 1 and oppositely inclined. The drum is connected to the kiln by a chain 30 so that it rotates with the kiln. Slurry is sprayed directly into the kiln by a nozzle 4 and is fed into the preheater by a shoot 24. The slurry is heated by chain curtains 27 and when it reaches the back of the drum is fed into the kiln by scoops 25 and a shoot 26. In another modification, the preheater is fixed and the heat-transmitting elements are endless chain curtains mounted on rollers.
