Abstract

<PICT:0442037/IV/1> <PICT:0442037/IV/2> Cakes of artificial silk yarn from spinning - pots are supported for liquid treatment, such as bleaching, on hollow perforated horizontal rods which are closed at one end and connected at the other end to a supply of treating liquid under pressure. These rods are arranged below, or to pass below, sprays, whereby both the inner and outer surfaces of the cakes are completely permeated. The treatment of the cakes may be carried out in several successive stages, the cakes remaining undisturbed throughout the treatment on their supporting rods, the couplings by which the rods are connected to each liquid supply being detachable. The hollow rods B, Fig. 2, with perforations b support the cakes A to be treated. They may be provided with longitudinal fins or ribs to raise the cakes A above the perforations b, and may be rotated during the liquid treatment. Liquid from a supply pipe E<1> flows to a tank C<1> and through perforation c in its base to the exterior of cakes A mounted on a series of the rods B arranged underneath. Treating liquor also passes to the insides of the cakes from the perforations b in the hollow rods B which are detachably coupled by pipes G and couplings g to a branch pipe F<1>. A tank D<1> collects the overflowing liquor. After treatment in the first stage at the tank C<1>, the rods B are decoupled and carried forward on a supporting conveyer to position for a second stage of the liquid treatment. One form of conveyer is shown in Fig. 9, wherein the rods B are supported in recesses j in a horizontal rod J which is given a reciprocating movement by a crank pin j<1>. Where it is desired to rotate the rods B during treatment, a friction disc b<4> is secured near the end of each rod and engages a second friction disc j<2> mounted on a rotating shaft. Preferably, as shown, two rods B are rotated from each rotating shaft.
