Abstract
Films of polymerized acrylic acid, vinyl alcohol, or their esters, having a rough surface are obtained by forming them on roughened glass, aluminium or the like. A solution of the polymer, for example, a 20 per cent solution of polymerized acrylic acid ethyl ester in ethyl acetate may be poured to a depth of 1mm. upon the roughened surface and the film stripped off when dry, or a roughened surface, which need not be plane, may be dipped into the solution. Specification 427,491, [Group VI], is referred to.ALSO:In making adhesive-coated films of polymerized acrylic acid, vinyl alcohol, or their esters, for use as wound plasters, the film surface to which the adhesive is applied is roughened to increase the area of contact by being formed on a roughened glass, aluminium or other surface, which may be plane or otherwise. A 20 per cent solution of polymerized acrylic acid ethyl ester in ethyl acetate containing additionally 5 per cent of dibutyl phthalate as a softener is poured to a depth of about 1 mm. on to a tray of roughened glass or aluminium; when dry the film is stripped off and the roughened surface coated with adhesive. The film may be formed by dipping and the adhesive may comprise a mixture of rubber, zinc oxide, wool-fat and resin dissolved in benzine. Specification 427,491 is referred to.
