[Class 126] In a cooking-stove with a casing containing a horizontally extending heat source or burner 18 which gives substantially uniform heat distribution and is arranged above a relatively flat plate 25 with a substantially unbroken supporting surface for the food to be cooked, the plate is of such thickness and heat conductivity that it absorbs the heat radiated thereon by the source or burner 18 and conducts it to the lower surface of the food so as to exert a substantial cooking action, and is constructed or disposed to allow juice or liquid emanating from the food to drain off the plate. Above the burner 18 is a baffle 35 with sloping sides and a central opening 38, and a plate 40 to protect the upper wall 15. The cooking chamber has air inlets 33 and outlets 34. The plate 25 has a flange 125 around its edge, and slopes slightly to the rear, where a channel 29 drains into a pipe 30 and thence into a detachable trough 31. The plate 25 can be slid forwardly, and carries a vertical plate 26 which closes the opening in the front of the casing. The burner 18 gives a downwardly inclined luminous flame. Below the plate 25 is an auxiliary burner 17. Combustion products pass from the lower burner to the cooking chamber above the plate 25 through spaces between the end walls of the casing and brackets 24 which support the burner 18. The walls of the casing may be insulated. A hinged cover 14 provided above the upper wall 15 forms an enclosure for toasting bread &c.
