Abstract

440,976. Flow meters. WELLESLEY, G., and COXETER & SON, Ltd., 171, Pancras Road, London. Sept. 18, 1934, No. 26778. [Class 69 (i)] In a flow meter for gases comprising an orifice or orifices provided in the outlet pipe of a pressure reducing valve, valve means are provided for altering the size of the orifice or the number of active orifices for use with one or the other of a number of ranges of calibrations of volume or weight on the. dial of a pressure gauge. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the variable orifice at X is constituted by a needle valve operated by a button or hand wheel 7, and a pointer 4a indicates on a dial 4 which of the ranges of calibrations on the dial 2 of the pressure gauge is to be used. When the gas issuing from the outlet 1a is to be used at a pressure greater than atmospheric, the usually open side of the gauge is connected to the outlet by a pipe 8. In a modification, a number of orifices are provided, all except one having a cut-off tap as shown in Fig. 4. According to the Provisional Specification, the variable orifice may be constituted by an iris diaphragm.
