Abstract
440,568. Paper-pulp refining-engines. CARBORUNDUM CO., Ltd., Trafford Park Road, Manchester.-(Carborundum Co. ; Niagara Falls, New York, U.S.A.) July 2, 1934, No. 19485. [Class 96] In a paper-pulp refiner having a tapered plug and shell, the working surfaces are of tougher, harder, and finer-grained material at the pulp-entrance end than elsewhere, and comprise at least in part a non-bonded abrasive cast from molten material. A cam 12 &c. as shown, or acting against a resilient thrust, reciprocates the shaft 2 &c. or the shell 3. Pulp may enter at either end, e.g. at 14. Bolts 7, 18, &c., allow replacement of worn sections. The abrasive may be silicon carbide, fused alumina, quartz, &c., and may be bonded with phenol condensation products, ceramic materials, &c., and sections may be cemented in, e.g. using molten sulphur. Specification 6788 /06, [Class 96], is referred to.
