Abstract
439,336. Moulding rubber cushioning- pads for boots and shoes. HOOPER, S. B., 78, Buller Road, Thornton Heath, Surrey. Feb. 2, 1935, No. 3469. [Class 87 (ii)] [See also Group VII] A resilient pad or cushion for wear inside footwear at the toe end, especially of football boots, is moulded with a convex outer surface b, Figs. 1, 2, 8, and a concave inner face c. The pad is of gradually decreasing thickness from the central part to all round its edge. It may be of substantially semicircular configuration in plan and so dimensioned as to be held in position by its resilience, or it may be held in position by a web d which is secured between the inner and outer soles. One or both faces of the pad may be provided with a strengthening layer of fabric, which may extend over the web if desired. The pads may be prepared by placing a suitable quantity of a sponge rubber mix in a cavity p, Fig. 12, in the lower of two complementary mould members m, n. When the members m, n are brought together, a portion of the mix is caused to spue outwardly between the adjacent faces s, t of the halves of the mould, to form a continuous web k around the pad proper j. If desired, a piece of open mesh fabric l may be placed in the mould before the rubber is introduced so as to be incorporated therewith during the moulding.
