Abstract
The compound 3 : 4-dihydroxy-phenyl-a -propanolamine is added to preparations of local an sthetics, in place of adrenaline which is commonly employed, as the vaso-constricting agent. It is stated that the preparations are stable and free from secondary toxic effects. The preparations may be in the form of powder, tablets, or solutions. Reducing agents such as sodium bisulphite, sodium sulphite, formaldehyde bisulphite, sodium hydrosulphite, acetone bisulphite, and formaldehyde sulphoxylate, may be added. According to an example an aqueous solution contains the hydrochloride of para - amino - benzoyl - diethylamino - ethanol, sodium chloride, potassium sulphate, and 3 : 4 - dihydroxy - phenyl - a - propanolamine rendered acid by hydrochloric acid. Acetone bisulphite may be added. A sample furnished under Sect. 2 (5) is an aqueous solution containing 4-butylaminobenzoic acid - b - dimethylamino - ethylestermonohydrochloride, sodium chloride, potassium sulphate, and 3 : 4 - dihydroxyphenyl - a - propanolamine hydrochloride. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers to the use, as vaso-constricting agents, of other compounds of the general formula <FORM:0439168/VI/1> in which R stands for an alkyl group, and refers particularly to 3 : 4-dihydroxy-phenyl-a -propanol-methylamine or -ethylamine, or-propylamine; refers to the use as an sthetic agents of para-amino benzoyl-g -butylamino propanol sulphate, para - amino - benzoyl - dimethyl-amino - methyl - butanol hydrochloride, para-butylamino - benzoyl - dimethyl - amino - ethanol hydrochloride, para - amino - benzoyl - 2 : 2-dimethyl - 3 - diethylamino - 1 - propanol hydrochloride, a -butyl-oxy-chinchoninic acid-g -diethyl - ethylene - diamino - hydrochloride, g -(2-methyl-piperidino)-propyl benzoate hydrochloride, and b -methoxy-ethylamino-benzoic acid - b - piperidino - ethyl ester monohydrochloride; and includes a number of additional examples according to one of which sodium bicarbonate is an ingredient of the solution, and according to another of which a solution contains only 3 : 4-dihydroxy-phenyl-a -propanolamine hydrochloride, sodium chloride and acetone bisulphite. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. Specification 8957/12, [Class 2 (iii)], is referred to.
