438,652. Indicating liquid levels. JERGUSON, P. A., 93, Wolcott Street, Medford, Middlesex, Massachusetts, U.S.A.- (Assignee of Chalatow, L. S. ; 74, The Fenway, Boston, U.S.A.) July 12, 1935, No. 19955. Convention date, July 14, 1934. [Class 123 (i)] Water level in a boiler 7 is indicated by change in weight of a gauge tube 9 connected to the boiler by flexible tubes 11, 13. A fixed support 17 carries a pair of spaced arms 19 providing supports for knife-edge bearings 23 by which a beam 15 is carried. The beam carries the tube 9 on knife edges, and a counterweight 25 which balances the tube when empty. The normal centre of mass of the tube and contents lies in the plane of the beam. The right-hand end of the beam 15 is connected by links to a pair of pendulums as shown diagrammatically in Fig. 5, which resist swinging of the beam. The deflection of the pendulums is a measure of the weight of water in the tube 9, and is indicated by a pointer 53 moved by links 63, 65. If the whole system becomes inclined, e.g. by movement of a ship, so that the line m becomes horizontal, the balance of the system remains unaltered.
