Abstract

176,650. Avery, Ltd., W. & T., and Sykes, C. M. Feb. 23. 1921 Pendulum-weight apparatus; steelyard apparatus.- Relates to a semi-automatic weighing-mechanism wherein a steelyard and a pendulum-weight mechanism are combined with a dial indicator, to balance the major and minor divisions of the load respectively, the load being initially automatically balanced by a spring resistant to give a rough measure of the weight. The rod 4, which connects the platform levers to the balancing mechanism, is suspended from the centre knife edge of a lever 6, which is itself suspended at the one end from the knife-edge 8 of the steelyard 9, and at its other end from a lever 11. The lever 11 is connected to a coil spring 18 which forms an automatic resistant for the load. The approximate weight of the load is indicated on a small dial 17, Fig. 1, the pointer 16 of which is operated bv the meshing of a sector 13 with a pinion 14. The steelyard 9 is fulcrumed by the knife-edge 9<a> upon bearings 22, and has projecing from its rear face a horizontal pin 24 to which is connected, the vertical rod 25 suspended from the lever 26 which is fulcrumed on a bracket 27. Connected to the other arm of the lever 26 is a dash-pot 28 and a weight 30 which is integral with a link 31, suspended from a knife-edge on a lever 33. This lever 33 is fulcrumed on a bracket 35 and is connected at its other end through links 36 to a central knife-edge in a yoke 37, attached to the ends of which are the flexible ribbons of the pendulous resistants 40, 40. Pivotally mounted on the yoke 37 is a pointer 47, Fig. 1. The major divisions of the load are balanced by a slidable weight 21 on the steelyard 9, the position to which it should be moved being automatically indicated by the pointer 16. The minor divisions of the load are balanced by the pendulums 40, and indicated by the pointer 47. If the poise 21 is not in the correct position, the pointer 47 will then be at one extremity of its scale and hidden behind a shutter 55.
