Abstract
438,571. Crossings for electric traction systems. SKERRITT, E. M., and WATSON, T. M., Naranka Works, Orange Street, Sheffield. April 27, 1935, No. 12622. [Class 104 (iii)] A continuous-conductor crossing for electric traction systems comprises a base 6 on which are pivoted tongues 2 operated by the trolley wheel &c., and adapted when moved in one direction to bridge gaps between a fixed central crossing point 3 and a through-running line A, A<1> or B, B<1>, the tongues being inter - connected so that when one line is open the other is closed. The tongues turn on pivots 4 and carry pins 9 adapted to move in slots 10 in the base 6 and carrying rollers 11 engaging spring arms 16 on a frame 15 pivoted at 13 on the base 6. When the trolley wheel moves one of the points to closed position, the adjacent point is opened by interaction between the rollers 11, and the diagonally opposite points are moved to corresponding positions by the frame 15 turning on its pivot 13 and actuating the rollers 11 of these points. In the form shown in Fig. 4, the base 6 carries insulating extensions 19, fixed to connectors 20 for the conductor. A steel bar 21 serving as a cross-over in a bi-polar system and insulated except where it is connected at 22 to the connectors 20, is fixed by clamps 23 to the extensions 19 and by clamps 24 to the base 6.
