Abstract

438,413. Tar. AGTHE, C. A., 12, Mommsenstrasse, Zurich, Switzerland.- (Assignee of Geigy Akt.-Ges., J. R.; 215, Schwarzwaldallee, Basle, Switzerland) May 14, 1935, No. 14136. Convention date, May 16, 1934. [Class 55 (ii)] The viscosity of tars is increased by heating during or after distillation with less than 5 per cent of an organic sulphochloride. In one example 1 per cent of cymol-sulphochloride is dissolved in a crude coal tar which is then distilled : in another it is dissolved in a distilled tar which is stirred for 24 hours in a reflux apparatus at 110-120‹ C. In a third example the latter process is effected with a mixture of distilled tar and 1 per cent of toluene sulphochloride.
