437,696. Endless - chain conveyers. PROCTER, J., 93, Halifax Road, Nelson, Lancashire. Nov. 24, 1934, No. 33812. [Class 78 (i)] Endless-chain conveying-mechanism, in which the chains 13 are connected to wheeled loadcarriers 12 travelling on an overhead runway, is adapted to pick up, transport, and re-deposit wheeled vehicles such as loaded wheel-barrows. A bar 41 suspended from the carrier 12 hangs adjacent to a second bar 22 which is provided with a lifting-cradle comprising a yoke 33 and depending load - engaging arms 34 having inwardly-directed notched lower ends 36 engaging cross-bars 38 on the barrow. A hand-lever 23, which is fulcrumed at 24 on the member 41 and pivoted to the member 22 at 25, is depressed into the dotted line position to raise the barrow from the ground. A pawl 26 engages a notch in the member 41 in this position and locks the load in raised position. The pawl is released by the hand-operated lever 29 against the action of the spring 28 when the load is to be lowered. Projections 39 on the members 36 prevent the loads from sliding relatively thereto, also a ball-bearing 19 and a toothed wheel 20 are provided, so that by engagement of the wheel with a fixed rack the load can be moved angularly. The apparatus is described in connection with the conveying of barrows loaded with green bricks from the moulding-machines, to selected points near the kilns, the deposited barrows then being wheeled into the interior of the kilns for unloading.
