Abstract
437,616. Frictional pocket igniters. COLIBRI LIGHTERS, Ltd., 105, Wood Street, Cheapside, London. May 1, 1934, No. 13168. Convention date, Oct. 12, 1933. [Class 75 (iii)] A fuel container 1 is provided with a removable striking element 2 comprising tubes 3, 5, carrying a wick or the like 4 and a friction - wheel 7 and flint respectively, the wheel being rotated by rubbing it along a rubber or other surface 11 on the container 1 for igniting the wick. The tube 5 may be composed of resilient material so that the wheel 7 approaches the wick when rubbed along the surface 11. The tubes 3, 5 are closed by screw-caps 19, 18, the cap 18 carrying the flintspring. As shown, the container 1 is provided with two sockets for receiving the tubes 3, 5. The socket 12 for the tube 5 is closed at the bottom, the other socket for the tube 3 being open at the bottom and preferably closed at the top during storage by a metal or other seal 15 adapted to be broken or pierced by the pointed end 16 of the tube 3. Alternatively, the container may have a single socket for the tube 3, the tube 5 being arranged to lie along the outside of the container. The fuel may be contained in a breakable ampoule or capsule within the container.
