Abstract
437,574. Water - waste preventers. PESSELL, R. C., 4, Widcombe Crescent, and PESSELL MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., 7, Old King Street, both in Bath, Somerset. March 21, 1935, No. 8887. [Class 26] [See also Group XXVI] The actuating mechanism of a flushing or other apparatus of the type in which a receptacle is adapted to be tilted for delivery and then to rotate back to a filling and/or normal position, comprises a member adapted to be rotated by hand, and spring-means adapted to rotate another member for tilting the receptacle, the spring-means yieldingly opposing rotation of the hand-operated member up to a predetermined amount when it is automatically released to reassert itself to rotate the other member. In a form of flushing apparatus, a rotatable receptacle 2, Fig. 6, is mounted within a casing 1 having a discharge outlet and has an enlargement 2a serving to restore the receptacle to normal position when full, in which position a member 2d closes a cap 2c on a filling-pipe 2b. The spindle 3, Fig. 2, or a trunnion upon which the receptacle 2 is mounted, carries a member 10 and has mounted thereon a sleeve 7 carrying a member 9 and an arm 8. Between the members 10, 9 and secured thereto or to the shaft and sleeve is a coiled torsion-spring 11, and when the arm 8 is lowered the spring is wound until a detent holding the member 10 against rotation is released by a projection 16 upon the member 9. Simultaneously with this, the member 9 and the sleeve 7 are looked against rotation by a second detent, so that the member 10, shaft 3 and the receptacle are then rotated until the second detent and the members 9 and 7 are released by a cam-shaped member on the member 10. The return of the receptacle is controlled by a fluid checking-device such as a dashpot 19, or as a dashpot constituted by a radial blade 24, Fig. 4, within a cylindrical space disposed about the shaft 3. Specification 428,857 is referred to.
