Abstract

Bleaching and washing preparations which comprise a percompound together with a salt of phosphoric acid containing less water than ortho - phosphoric acid are stabilized in an alkaline medium by the addition of aluminium hydroxide or of aluminium salts which can yield aluminium hydroxide under the prevailing experimental conditions. Suitable percompounds are perborates, percarbonates, perphosphates, per - pyrophosphates and hydrogen peroxide. Suitable phosphoric acid salts are pyrophosphates and metaphosphates. These may be employed in the monomeric form or the polymeric form for example as trimeric or hexameric metaphosphate. The amount of aluminium hydroxide required for the purpose of the invention is 0,5 to 5,0 per cent. The stabilizing effect of the aluminium hydroxide is also exhibited in the presence of other substances, and additional known washing, cleansing, steeping, bleaching, scouring, wetting and emulsifying agents may also be added. In examples, (1) soap, neutral sodium pyrophosphate, sodium perborate, anhydrous sodium carbonate and aluminium hydroxide are mixed in an edge-runner mill, and used for washing textiles; (2) a bleaching composition comprises sodium pyrophosphate, anhydrous sodium carbonate, and aluminium hydroxide mixed with sodium perborate; (3) a washing agent comprises soap, a polyphosphate of the formula Na9P5O17, sodium perborate, soda, and aluminium hydroxide. Instead of the above polyphosphate it is also possible to use polyphosphates of the formula Na5P3O10, Na6P4O13, or Na12P10O31; (6) a bleaching medium comprises sodium metaphosphate, soda, sodium perborate, and aluminium hydroxide.
