[Class 102 (i)] [See also Groups XVI and VIII] A pump for forcing paste to a nozzle block which applies a line of paste to a web coming from a pointing machine, comprises a block 30 which carries four plungers 26, is journalled to the central eccentric portions of crankshafts 36, and is capable of sliding vertically on guides 31 rigidly fixed to a member 27 constrained by guides to slide horizontally. The crank-shafts 36, are journalled at their ends in the pump casing 29, and on their being revolved by gears 39, 40, the block 30 moves in a closed loop, the horizontal component being transmitted to the member 27, and the vertical component to the plungers 26. Thus, as the plungers 26 rise, the block 27 moves to the left so that bores 27<1> formed therein, register with supply grooves 43 communicating with the interior of the casing (which forms a paste sump), and are filled with paste. As the plungers descend, the block moves to the right, so that the bores 27<1>, register with, and discharge into, passages 42, connected with the nozzles. The feed from any plunger can be reduced or cut off, by screwing down a stop 65. The end of the plunger will contact with this, further upward movement of the block 30, merely compressing a spring 34. The sump is filled through spout 46, and drained through pipe 49.
