Abstract
435,790. Pads. PAD-Y-WAX CO., Inc., 25, Broadway, New York, U.S.A. March 11, 1935, No. 7563. Convention date, March 10, 1934. [Class 19] The invention relates to waxing pads for furniture, motor bodies, and the like, and to means for making the pads. A pad comprises an impervious backing 10, Fig. 1, of canvas &c. proofed with nitrocellulose solution or the like, a layer 11 of loose fibres of textile material and netting 12 which is sewn through to keep the fibres in place. A handle 13 of tape may be provided. The pad is inverted and a measured quantity of liquid wax is poured on it and absorbed by the fibres. The pads may be inserted in a vapour proof envelope 15, Fig. 4a, and sealed by a strip 16 of tape. In a modification, Fig. 5, a layer 11<c> of wax or wax bearing material is introduced into a bag 12<c> of netting attached to a backing 10<c>. A machine for making the pads, Figs. 6 and 7, comprises drums 20, 22 for backing material and netting respectively and lightly carded material 21, with strapping 23. The materials are fed to a multiple stitching and slitting machine 24. The stitching is indicated at 25, 26 and strips are cut at 27. The strips are cut by a knife 28, to form a length sufficient for several pads. The strips then pass another battery of slitting machines 29 which sew them up and cut them apart as at 31. The pads are then turned over and pass beneath valved filling nozzles 32 of a tank of liquid wax.
