[Class 18] A trunk, box, hand-bag, portmanteau, travelling case, suit case, laundry box, biscuit tin, packing, or like case or container is made of variable capacity by constructing it from top and bottom trays 5, 6 which may be secured together to form a container and which has hooks for securing a removable handle 25, or may be secured to a centre section 7 comprising front and back walls 8, 9 and collapsable end walls 10, 11. The separable parts are connected at the back by means of separable hinges comprising parts 14 carrying barrels 15 and parts 16 carrying pins 17, and are connected at the front either by the spring bag locking devices commonly used on attachÚ cases or by a toggle device 18, 19, the loop 19 engaging the hook 18, and a part 20 serving as an operating lever for the toggle. To positively prevent the centre portion from collapsing stop fillets 23 may be provided between which and the edge of the tray the rim of the centre portion engages. The centre portion when collapsed is carried within the container formed by the trays 5, 6. Centre portions of different sizes may be provided to give containers of different capacities.
