Abstract
435,748. Liquid - fuel burners. BAUER, E. L., 1127, West 7th Street, Wilmington, Delaware, U.S.A. April 29, 1935, No. 12773. [Class 75 (i)] Oil is fed to a combustion pot fitted with an annular perforated air conduit arranged inwardly of and contiguous to the rim of the pot, the air conduit having one or more perforated branches extending downwardly into the pot. In Fig. 1 oil is supplied through a pipe 24 to a base 22, which with a drum 26, forms the combustion pot. The oil is ignited by a downwardly directed gas pilot burner 52 and burns with air issuing from a perforated annular conduit 36 and perforated legs 50 connected to the conduit 36. The conduit 36 is of triangular section and has an annular shoulder 48 formed with with air passages 49. The legs 50 may be of triangular, circular, semicircular or other section. The air is supplied to the conduit 36 by a blower through passages 43, 40 in the base 22 and pipes 44, 47, the passage 40 being formed in the middle of the base with an enlargement which ensures a uniform delivery pressure. A shell 28 is supported by the base 22 outside the pipes 44, 47. The annular space between the drum 26 and shell 28 is covered by a ring 30. Air enters this annular space through openings in the base 22 and is discharged into the combustion zone through apertures 33 formed between downwardly extending lugs on the ring 30. A flange 34 on the ring 30 supports the two parts 35, 35<1> of a deflector ring constricting the opening above the pot. After initiation the pot is substantially free from flame which starts burning in the region of the shoulder 48. Fig. 10 shows a modified construction in which oil discharged from a nozzle 58 burns with air discharged from upwardly directed perforations 60 in an annular conduit 55 and from perforated legs 56, both the conduit 55 and legs 56 being of circular cross-section.
