Abstract

434,903. Maintaining equal speeds of motors. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET, Võsteras, Sweden. Aug. 3, 1934, No. 22670. Convention date, Feb. 8. [Class 38 (iii)] The driving unit of each of a number of machines, e.g. the printing units and folders of a printing press, comprises a three - phase commutator motor 1 speed regulated by brush displacement, mechanically coupled directly or by gearing to an asynchronous motor 2, one of the motors serving for the drive and the other for synchronizing at normal speed, and the functions being interchanged at crawling speed, the synchronizing motors being connected in parallel on their stator and rotor sides. At starting a switch 11 may be closed and the asynchronous motors 2 may be fed from a low-frequency supply to drive the machines at crawling speed, the commutator motors with their stator windings disconnected from the brushes acting as synchronizing machines. For normal running the motors 2 are connected to the supply of normal frequency and act as synchronizing machines, while the motors 1 serve for the drive. Alternatively, the motors 1 may serve as the drive at crawling speed, being fed from a low frequency supply and having their secondary windings disconnected from the brushes and short-circuited. In this case the motors 2 ensure synchronism at crawling speed, and act as the drive with the motors 1 maintaining synchronism at normal speed. The brushes of the motors 1 are displaced by motors 17 under the control of push-button switches 13, 14, and directional current relays 18, in the stator or rotor circuits of the motors 2, also control the motors 17 to prevent the motors 2 being loaded while they serve for synchronizing. The brushes of the motors 1 may be returned to the low speed position when the motors are stopped. The correct relationship of the machines is ensured by synchronizing relays 22 controlling contactors 21 in the stator circuits of the motors 1 as described in Specification 434,947.
