Abstract

434,116. Electrolytic cleaning and plating apparatus. BREWER, S. R., 58, Brooklands Crescent, Fulwood, and HINSLEY, J. F., 47, Greystones Hall Road, Ecclesall, both in Sheffield. Jan. 23, 1934, No. 2258. [Class 41] Metal wire or strip or articles connected in a chain are descaled by passage through a long narrow tank 1, shown in plan, between electrodes mounted in recesses 4 and similarly arranged electrodes of opposite polarity at the other end of the tank, the work thus forming an intermediate electrode. Contact with the electrodes is prevented by gratings 14. The work may be passed under rollers 16 or wooden skids. A sump may be provided at the middle of the tank for removal of sludge. Articles may be joined into a chain by spot-welding just before entering the tank. By the use of a suitable electrolyte articles may be first cleaned anodically and plated in the cathodic stage.
