[Class 70] [See also Group VII] A method of producing rubber, or rubber articles, e.g. gloves, with a roughened or crinkled surface, consists in partially vulcanizing the rubber to form a skin, treating certain portions of the skin with a liquid swelling agent, e.g. naphtha, benzol, gasoline, and other portions of the skin with fumes or vapour from a swelling agent to provide roughened or crinkled surfaces of different textures, and completing the vulcanization of the rubber. In an example, gloves with roughened grip portions 10 on the fingers, are made by depositing rubber on a form, exposing to sulphur chloride fumes at about 230-240‹ F. for about five to eight minutes, and dipping the finger portions in naphtha for a period depending on the roughness desired. The parts 12 above the naphtha are exposed to the fumes and this produces a slight crinkling. The gloves are dried for from 10-15 minutes at 80‹ F. and given a final cure.
