Abstract
A method of modifying the properties of articles of or containing rubber produced directly from dispersions containing natural rubber latex in admixture with compounding or vulcanizing ingredients or both, comprises coating or treating the finished or unfinished articles with a thin, preferably very thin, film of substantially uncompounded natural rubber latex and coagulating this film. The film latex may be concentrated to about 20 per cent, compounded with fillers up to 5 per cent, and softened with oil, but should be substantially free from sulphur and hydroscopic substances. The film may be coagulated by drying at room temperatures or at temperatures up to 50 or 60 DEG C., or by liquid or vapour coagulants with subsequent drying. The article may be set, before application of the film, by drying or a coagulant. The film vulcanises by migration of sulphur or accelerator or both from the rubber of the article.
