433,556. Liquid-treating apparatus. STEVENS, A. H., 5, Quality Court, Chancery Lane, London.-(Pfaudler Co. ; 89, East Avenue, Rochester, New York, U.S.A.) Feb. 17, 1934, No. 5324. [Class 86] [See also Group XXVI] Apparatus for treating liquids comprises a tank 10 having an opening in its wall for an agitator shaft 26 which is supported by means of bearings 25, adjustable transversely of the tank opening to align the shaft therewith, and also by means of a bushing 34, which is adjustable transversely of the shaft 26 to align the bushing 34 with the shaft. The shaft bearings 25 are provided on a member 19 formed with an upstanding ring-shaped portion 21 which is connected to the front wall of a frame 16 secured to the tank by means of bolts 23 extending through openings 24 in the frame, the openings being large enough to permit of lateral play of the bolts 23. The bearings 25 are shifted laterally by means of adjusting screws 32 threaded through lugs 33 mounted on the front wall of the frame 16. The bushing 34, Fig. 3, is clamped in position within flanged portions 11, 12, of the tank by means of a nut 38 threaded on the outer end of the bushing 34, a washer 39 being interposed between the nut 38 and the flange 12, and the bushing 34 being aligned with respect to the shaft bearings 25 by means of screws 40 threaded in a flanged portion 41 of the washer 39. The tank opening is sealed by means of rings 45, 47, which are movable through openings in the ring-shaped portion 21 of the member 19 to the position shown in dotted lines, Fig. 1, to allow of the bushing 34 and other parts of the apparatus being cleaned and sterilized.
